Victron Energy MultiPlus-II: a MultiPlus with ESS (Energy Storage System) functionality
The MultiPlus-II is a multifunctional inverter/charger with all the features of the MultiPlus, plus an optional external current transformer that extends the PowerControl and PowerAssist functions to 50 A and 100 A respectively.
The MultiPlus-II is ideal for professional marine installations, sailing yachts, vehicles and off-grid systems.
It also features built-in anti-islanding and an ever-growing list of country certifications for the ESS application. Several system configurations are possible.
MultiPlus-II GX: the version with built-in LCD display & GX
The MultiPlus-II GX combines a MultiPlus-II inverter/charger and a GX communication device with an LCD screen (2×16 characters): it displays the parameters of the MPPT, the battery and the inverter, which are also accessible from a smartphone. It has a BMS-Can interface (battery managed over Can bus), a VE.Direct port and a USB port. Choose it if the installation requires remote supervision or advanced interfacing — a single GX unit is enough in a parallel or three-phase system. Otherwise, the standard MultiPlus-II (without screen) delivers exactly the same conversion/charging.
Automatic and uninterrupted switchover
In the event of a power failure, or when the generator is switched off, the MultiPlus-II switches to inverter mode and takes over the supply to the connected appliances. This transfer is so fast that the operation of computers and other electronic equipment is not disrupted (uninterruptible power supply, or UPS, function). This makes the MultiPlus-II a back-up power system perfectly suited to industrial and telecommunications applications. The maximum switched power is 16 A or 50 A depending on the model.
Auxiliary AC output
In addition to the usual uninterrupted output, an auxiliary output is available which disconnects its load when running on battery. For example: an electric boiler that may only operate when the genset is running or when shore power is available.
Virtually unlimited power thanks to parallel operation
Up to 6 Multis can operate in parallel. For example, six 24/3000/70 units will deliver 15 kW / 18 kVA of output power and 420 A of charging capacity.
Three-phase configuration
Three units can be configured for a three-phase output. But that is not all: up to 6 sets of three units can operate in parallel, providing an inverter power of 45 kVA / 54 kVA and a charging capacity of more than 1000 A.
PowerControl – making the most of a limited shore supply
The MultiPlus-II can deliver enormous charging power, which places a heavy demand on shore power or the generator. A maximum power level can therefore be set. The MultiPlus-II then takes the other power users into account and uses only the « surplus » current to charge the batteries.
PowerAssist – extended use of your generator and shore supply: the MultiPlus-II co-supply function
This function adds a further dimension to the PowerControl principle by allowing the MultiPlus-II to supplement the capacity of the alternative source. Because peak power is usually required only for a short time, the MultiPlus-II ensures that any shortfall of shore or generator power is immediately compensated by the batteries. When demand drops, the surplus power is used to recharge the batteries. This unique function offers a definitive solution to shore-power limitations: high-power electrical appliances, dishwashers, washing machines, electric cookers, etc. can all run from a 16 A shore connection, or less. A smaller generator can also be installed.
Stand-alone operation during a grid failure
Homes or buildings fitted with solar panels, or with a micro power plant for electricity and heating, or other sustainable energy sources, thus have an independent electricity supply that can be used to power essential equipment (central-heating pumps, refrigerators, freezers, internet connections, etc.) during a power cut. There is one problem, however: these grid-connected renewable sources are cut off as soon as the grid fails. With a MultiPlus-II and batteries, this problem is easily solved: the MultiPlus-II can replace the grid during an outage. When the renewable sources produce more power than is needed, the MultiPlus-II uses the surplus to charge the batteries; and during a power cut, the MultiPlus-II supplies extra power from the batteries.
Programmable relay
The MultiPlus-II is fitted with a programmable relay, configured by default as an alarm relay. This relay can be programmed for all kinds of applications, for example as a start relay for a generator.
Solar energy
The MultiPlus-II is perfectly suited to solar energy applications. It can be used in stand-alone systems as well as in grid-connected systems.
Remote monitoring and control
When combined with a GX device (for example a Cerbo GX), you can monitor and control your Multi and your system or systems either locally (Ethernet) or remotely over the internet from anywhere in the world, through the free VRM app and the free VRM web portal. You can access it from a phone, tablet, laptop or PC running various operating systems. The level of control over your system is unlimited, whether to adjust settings on your MultiPlus-II or to start your back-up generator automatically, and much more.
